Bumper Repair and Replacement in Wylie, Inside and Out

Rear-ended at the FM 544 light or backed into a post at the grocery store, a bumper often hides more than it shows.

A Bumper Is More Than a Plastic Cover

Modern bumpers are a system. The painted cover you see sits over a foam or plastic absorber, a steel or aluminum reinforcement bar, mounting brackets and, on many cars, parking sensors and radar for adaptive cruise. A light tap can crack a bracket or shift a sensor without leaving much of a mark on the cover. At Autobody Repairs Wylie we remove the cover to check what's underneath before deciding whether to repair or replace it. Bumper damage is the most common thing we see from Wylie traffic, usually from rear-end bumps at lights along Highway 78. The estimate covers the cover, the parts behind it and any sensor work the car needs afterward.

What Our Bumper Repair Includes

Here's everything we check and fix when a bumper comes in.

  • Cover removal and inspection

The bumper cover comes off so we can inspect the absorber, reinforcement and brackets behind it.

  • Plastic repair

Cracks and tears are plastic-welded from behind and reinforced so they don't spread.

  • Reshaping

Pushed-in or distorted covers are heated and reshaped when the plastic allows it.

  • Cover replacement

Covers that are too damaged are replaced and refinished to match the car.

  • Bracket and absorber replacement

Broken clips, brackets and crushed absorbers are replaced so the bumper sits and performs correctly.

  • Reinforcement bar check

The bar behind the cover is inspected for bends that would reduce crash protection.

  • Parking sensor work

Sensors are reinstalled, painted where required and tested so they read correctly.

  • Fit and gap check

The finished bumper is aligned to the fenders, lights and hood so the gaps are even.

Our Bumper Repair Process

  1. 1

    Take it apart

We remove the bumper cover and look at everything behind it. Damage that wasn't visible gets photographed for you and your insurer. Then we decide whether the cover can be repaired or should be replaced. You'll get the full picture in the estimate.

  2. 2

    Repair the parts

Cracks are welded, brackets and absorbers are replaced and the cover is reshaped or swapped. The cover is prepped and painted to match the car. Sensors are mounted in the correct position. Most bumper repairs are finished within a few days.

  3. 3

    Reinstall and test

The bumper goes back on and is aligned to the surrounding panels. Parking sensors and any radar units are tested and calibrated if needed. Then we check the fit one last time before calling you.

Why Our Bumper Repairs Go Deeper

  • We look behind the cover

Hidden bracket and absorber damage is common. Finding it now beats finding it in the next bump.

  • Repair when it makes sense

If a cover can be welded and reshaped properly, we'll repair it rather than default to replacement.

  • Sensors done right

Parking aids and radar get tested after the repair, not left for you to discover acting up.

Bumper Cracked, Scuffed or Hanging Loose?

A loose bumper can catch the wind on the highway and tear off. Call and describe the damage, and we'll explain the repair.
